TechTool review of Smart FOAM by iClinicalApps on Android, iPhone and iPad

This week, we released Smart FOAM, a new mobile app, which collects all your #FOAMed resources in the one place.  The idea is to make it easier to access FOAM, given that the volume of content is increasing by the minute.

Clinical Content

  • FOAMEM feed – this aggregates all #foamed blogposts via foamem.org
  • #foamed twitter feed
  • GMEP media feed – this has all new media posts
  • Search FOAM content via googlefoam.com
  • Browse clinical guidelines via guidelinesforme.com
  • View a list of FOAM blog sites

Cost

  • …and it only costs $4.99 per month
  • …just kidding – it’s FOAM and it’s FREE

Overall

There has been a great response since the app was released and we have received some excellent feedback.  The changes that are planned are:

  • Try to make scrolling the feeds smoother as it can be a bit jerky at times
  • Sort the twitter handles (currently not displaying correctly so you can’t ‘follow’ someone)
  • Sharing on twitter to show that is was posted from Smart FOAM
  • Allow users to mark feed posts as favourites so they can come back to them later
  • Add an events feed where we can post details of upcoming conferences

FOAMEM will also look into adjusting their feed to make it clearer who wrote the posts and where they came from.I will aim to make the changes to Smart FOAM over the coming weeks. This app can then be easily adapted for when FOAM expands more (i.e. one for #gasFOAM, #FOAM4GP etc).
