This feature post looks at the graphic hard hitting advertising campaign by the Transport Accident Commision of Victoria, over the past 20years.

Information can be conveyed via many different methods and the brain has a great ability to store this information in a meaningful context. While words have been doing a great job at exchanging information sometimes a simple picture can say a thousand words.

Now that pretty much everyone on the ‘Life in the Fast Lane’ team has an iPhone (some of us more belatedly than others) its time to throw out a few of our favourite Apps… In no particular order. Some more obvious than others. Some more medical than others!

MEDTING is a free online MEDical MeeTING and Exchange platform where registered medical practitioners can publish and share medical content. Users can create clinical cases, upload images and videos. With an ever-expanding collection of radiological and clinical images the next step is to combine core text, HQ clinical images and HD video with physician led animation. In this respect I find the work of Professor Pete Smith to be outstanding and look forward to being able to access more than just the small sample of videos he has written and designed.

Body maps is an online human atlas currently in beta testing phase at present. Body maps of adult male, adult female and child are available. Navigation is simple using the ‘system tree’ menu on the left of the screen and it is possible to view the cardiovascular, muscular, lymphatic, nervous, respiratory and reproductive systems independently or in combination to enhance spatial orientation.
