Yosef Leibman’s Emergency Medicine Update

You’ll be seeing a few new initiatives on LITFL in the coming weeks as we look to supplement our usual staple of educational resources and databases, case-based Q&As, The LITFL Review, the ECG library, exam resources, interjections from UCEM and the various mad cap ideas and experiences of our team.

One of our priorities is to provide ready access to high yield evidence-based information from the emergency medicine and critical care literature… without contributing to information overload. The first of these initiatives is to welcome Yosef Leibman’s Emergency Medicine Update to LITFL. The second… well you’ll have to wait and see in a future blogpost …

Yosef Leibman is an emergency medicine legend. He is currently a senior attending in the emergency department at Meir Hospital in Kfar Sava, Israel and is affiliated with the Tel Aviv University of Medicine. Until recently he was Chairman of Emergency Services at Bikur Cholim Hospital in Jerusalem. As well as being a prolific author and speaker in both Israel and the United States, Yosef was the founder and first Editor in Chief of the Israeli Journal of Emergency Medicine.

Readers of EM blog may remember Yosef as the ‘Mythbuster’ — the author of a number of zany, eclectic, and thoroughly edutaining articles such as:

Since 1998 Yosef has been the force behind a remarkable peer-reviewed ‘one man journal watch’ called Emergency Medicine Update, or EMU for short. EMU provides a monthly evidence-based review of ‘what’s hot and what’s not’ from the recent emergency medicine literature. Each edition encompasses about 30 or so publications and features a few additional essays, roundtable discussions and letters to the Editor.

EMU has hundreds of subscribers throughout the world including many of the luminaries of emergency medicine. However, there are only 3 subscribers in Australia (including me, thanks to a hot tip from the one and only Joe Lex!)… It seems to me that more people should be checking out EMU!
