Go the Mo Bro
Movember – the month formerly known as ‘November‘ – is a moustache growing charity event held during ‘November’ each year that raises funds and awareness for mens health. Participants (Mo Bros) await with eager anticipation across the globe – you can register in US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Spain…This year the Life in the Fast Lane Team hope to go better than 2008
November is 30 days long. That means 30 days of growing, styling, fundraising and embracing your moustache – to make one of the Manliest ’tashes of all time. Start the month clean shaven and go in with an open mind – remember you don’t choose the moustache, it chooses you
The Rules:
- Once registered each Mo Bro must start with a clean shaven face on November 1st
- A moustache must be grown and groomed for the month of Movember providing:
- NO beards
- NO goatees
- …a small complimentary growth (‘tickler’ or ‘merkin‘) directly below the upper lip is allowed
The Issues:
- Which ever way we look at it, men are far less healthy than women. The average life expectancy for men is five years less than for women.
- Men lack awareness about the very real health issues they face. There is an attitude that they have to be tough – “a real man” – and are reluctant to see a doctor about an illness or go for regular medical checks.
Movember aims to change these attitudes and make men’s health fun by putting the Mo back on the face of fashion and in the process raise some serious funds for key men’s health issues
- Depression affects 1 in 6 men….most don’t seek help. Untreated depression is a leading risk factor for suicide.
- Every year 2,900 Australian men die from prostate cancer and over 18,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer.

The beneficiaries
This year, The Movember Foundation (Australia) has again partnered with beyondblue: the national depression initiative, along with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA). Funds raised during Movember will help beyondblue increase awareness of depression in men and encourage men to talk about depression and seek treatment.
While growing a Mo is left to the guys, Mo Sistas (ladies who support their guys or just love Mo’s!) form an important part of Movember by recruiting Mo Bros, helping to raise funds and attending the highly anticipated Gala Partés.
