Most readers of this blog will take the emergency telephone numbers such as 911, 000, 111 or 999 for granted. These emergency numbers provide security, support and a rapid response in time-critical situations. However, most developing countries do not have the luxury of a centralized emergency telephone number and lack the ability to rapidly respond to medical emergencies.

Dial 1298 for Ambulance, is an initiative started by a group of young professionals with a high degree of social and public commitment with the primary objective of rolling out a nationwide network of Life Support Ambulance Service accessible to anyone, anytime and anywhere. The Dial 1298 for Ambulance service is free for Accident & Disaster victims.

Dial 1298 for Ambulance project has made a huge impact

  • Saving more than 50,000 lives in Mumbai
  • Handling 70 – 150 emergency calls per day
  • Promoting the transition from ‘white ambulance’ [hearse] to ‘yellow ambulance’ [emergency vehicle]
  • Providing free or subsidized calls to over 15,000 patients to make the service available to all strata of the society.
