Advancing medical search for health professionals is a hot topic. We have already reviewed SearchMedica, GoPubMed, Hakia PubMed and Semantic Medline Cognition -now we turn our attention to ScienceRoll Search Engine.
Personalized search home pages such as BuildaSearch, Rollyo and Samfind are not new to the search genre, but well structured medical search engines with credible sources are hard to find. Science Roll is a medical blog run by Bertalan Meskó who, with the help of Polymeta.com has created a well structured medical search database. The user chooses which databases to search in and which one to exclude from your list. Currently users can choose from:
- Basic Health Information Sites
- Organizations:
- Pharmaceutical Information
- Research Information
- BioMedCentral, ClinicalTrials, PubMed, MayoClinic, CochraneLibrary
![]()
The newest addition to the database is MD Consult, one of the most comprehensive clinical information service online provided by The National Institutes of Health Library.
The addition of MeSH terms is another great improvement. If you do a search for heart attack, it will let you know you should also consider myocardial infarction (a MeSH synonym) immediately below the search bar and within the ‘Topic Clusters’.
The same Bertalan Meskó is also the mastermind behind the upcoming HealthMash™ and Webicina launches!
