#FOAMed facts

A day of numbers 12 12 12

Every so often the data entry and Google doc spreadsheet updates becomes too tedious to handle, and I get carried away with numbers and statistics. No specific numbers, just the facile, random and obtuse numbers…so I thought I would share some random arithmetic.

The world is getting smaller as #FOAMed is getting bigger

The net effect of FOAM has taken me quite by surprise. Despite a complete lack of evidence, peer review, mission statements OR Big Pharma backing – the FOAMed revolution continues to infiltrate the psyche of the everyday healthcare professional. The ability to intelligently review, discuss and develop hypotheses, guidelines and issues; the sense of community; the sense of rebellious augmented learning and the joy of independence is rife…and contagious.

“… the time is coming to gather all nations and tongues. And they shall come and see ..”.

I apologize to take words from Isaiah, but really this project is gathering something that only to the Emergency medicine may belong. I am not sure, but I think we are the only specialty who is being able to put together so many countries, so many people with the same attitude, no pesonal interests, breaking the boundaries and the walls that prevent the culture to take its right place: The whole World.

Bravo LIfe In he Fast Lane!

Second that Bravo! FOAM definitely harnesses the power of intrinsic motivation. Who would’ve thought that Wikipedia would beat out Britanica and Encarta?

    And a Quote:

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

    -Margaret Mead

Emergency Medicine is following her beliefs!

Just wondering what’s been the reach of FOAMed across other specialties. Clearly it is endemic (for want of a better word) in EM with a big crit care uptake too. What are the other specialties doing? Do they see it as just an EM/CC thing?
